Mentoring: There was a time when family, friends, & neighbors took an active responsibility as mentors in raising children. Mentors are trusted guides, wise teachers, and positive role models. This vital relationship helps young adults become positive contributors in the larger community beyond their immediate families. Spence's Farm has carefully created this family & community environment for your family to grow and experience the values associated with becoming better partners with each other and with Nature.
Goals: It is our primary goal to offer hands-on challenging learning experiences to children. Our experiential educational programs are designed to increase each child's personal knowledge. For example, in learning to ride a horse emphasis is also on developing important emotional, relationship & social skills. These skills include respect for all life, patience, focusing attention, overcoming fears, listening, working together & following directions.
Our programs are based on what we call the CRAFTS of Partnership.

SETTING GOOD BOUNDARIES
In the first 1/2 hour of camp we discuss the day's theme. At the end of the day we review the topic and then have an important acknowledgment session. In our acknowledgment sessions we encourage everyone to acknowledge the positive behaviors, developments and accomplishments that occurred that day in themselves and in others.
Staff: Each program has one or more adult/mentor leaders, persons who, because of their accumulated life experiences, skills and knowledge, we consider to be positive role models. Our mentors may be assisted by one or more young people enrolled in our Junior Mentor Training Program.
